What Is Blocking Your Intuition?
Hello, dear ones. I’m Tina Zion, and welcome back to my series on intuition, medical intuition, and mediumship.
In my first video, we explored what intuition is and why everyone is naturally intuitive. In the second video, we discussed medical intuition and how it can help us understand the deeper patterns behind health and healing.
Today, I’d like to talk about something many people experience but rarely discuss:
What is blocking your intuition?
Over the years, I’ve heard the same concerns from students in my classes. They know they want to develop their intuition, but something seems to be holding them back. If you’ve ever wondered why your intuition doesn’t seem as strong as you’d like, this article may help you recognize what’s standing in your way.
We Are Naturally Intuitive
Before we talk about the blocks, it’s important to remember one thing:
Intuition is a natural part of who we are
Developing your intuition isn’t about becoming someone different. It’s about removing the obstacles that prevent you from trusting what has always been within you.
From my experience, there are six common things that interfere with our natural intuitive abilities.
1. Fear
The biggest obstacle I see is fear.
People often tell me they’re afraid to even consider that they might be intuitive. Some of the fears I hear most often include:
- Fear of the unknown
- Fear that intuition isn’t normal
- Fear that developing intuition will change their life
- Fear of failure
- Fear of being wrong
- Fear of simply imagining everything
- Fear of not being worthy
- Fear that the spirit world will dominate them
- Fear of knowing things they don’t want to know
- Fear of seeing deceased loved ones
- Fear of being responsible for what they perceive
- Fear of legal issues or professional consequences
- Fear of making mistakes
None of these fears are unusual. I’ve heard them from students for many years.
The important thing is to recognize them.
Fear doesn’t mean you shouldn’t explore your intuition. It simply means you’ve discovered one of the barriers that’s asking to be understood and released.
One thing I often remind my students is this:
Be playful.
Don’t put pressure on yourself to be perfect. Allow yourself to learn naturally without judging every experience.
2. Expectations
Another common block is having unrealistic expectations about what intuition should feel like.
Some people expect dramatic psychic experiences. Others expect something frightening.
Our expectations influence how we interpret every intuitive experience.
Instead, consider asking yourself:
- What do I expect intuition to be like?
- What beliefs have I created about becoming more intuitive?
- Are those expectations helping me—or limiting me?
Intuition is often much quieter than people imagine.
It is a gradual deepening of awareness.
3. Limiting Rules
Many of us create mental rules that actually prevent intuition from flowing naturally.
We tell ourselves things like:
- Intuition must happen a certain way.
- I have to receive information exactly like someone else.
- If I don’t experience it a certain way, I’m doing it wrong.
The truth is that intuition doesn’t follow rigid rules.
Each person’s intuitive experience is unique.
When we let go of unnecessary expectations and mental rules, intuition has room to develop naturally.
4. Focusing on Yourself Instead of Your Client
This is especially important for people who practice intuitive readings or healing sessions.
Before beginning a session, many practitioners become consumed with thoughts such as:
- What if I’m wrong?
- What will they think of me?
- What if I fail?
- What if I don’t receive anything?
These thoughts pull your attention inward.
Instead, I encourage students to gently set themselves aside during the session.
When I work with a client, I intentionally place my own concerns, family, daily life, and personal challenges off to the side.
My attention becomes completely focused on the person I’m helping.
That shift creates space for intuitive information to come through more clearly.
5. Strong Emotional Reactions
Strong emotions can interfere with intuitive perception.
Fear.
Anger.
Hatred.
Overexcitement.
Even becoming emotionally attached to getting the “right” answer can interfere with receiving intuitive information.
Our emotions create powerful energetic frequencies.
When those emotional frequencies become overwhelming, they can make it more difficult to perceive the subtle information intuition provides.
The calmer and more centered we become, the easier it is to receive intuitive impressions.
6. Hiding Your Abilities
The final block is something many people don’t recognize.
Sometimes we hide our intuitive abilities.
We minimize them.
We dismiss them.
Or we pretend they aren’t there because we’re worried about what others might think.
I’m not suggesting that you announce your gifts to everyone you meet.
But there is a difference between being private and suppressing who you are.
When we continually hide an important part of ourselves, we also suppress the energy that allows those abilities to grow.
Giving yourself permission to acknowledge your intuition—even quietly—can be an important step toward strengthening it.
Becoming More Intuitive Begins with Awareness
The first step toward developing your intuition isn’t learning another technique.
It’s recognizing what may already be standing in your way.
As you reflect on these six common blocks, ask yourself:
- Which fears resonate with me?
- What expectations am I holding?
- What limiting beliefs have I created?
- Am I focusing too much on myself?
- Are strong emotions interfering with my awareness?
- Have I been hiding my intuitive abilities?
Simply becoming aware of these patterns can begin creating positive change.
Remember, intuition is your birthright.
The more you release what blocks it, the more naturally it can emerge.
Take some time to reflect on these ideas, and perhaps read through them again. You may discover something about yourself that opens the door to a deeper level of intuitive awareness.
Bless your heart.
